Since 1909, the path to an official recognition for scotch regions took some time.  Nearly one-hundred years had passed when the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 (SWR) formalized three regions—Highlands, Lowlands, and Speyside—and two localities—Campbeltown and Islay in order to protect and preserve Scotland’s identity worldwide as it relates to its most popular spirit.

Our first and most popular design is the recognizable four-hole flight.  The flight was especially designed to hold four Glencairn whisky glasses.  The Glencairn whisky glass is a style of glass intended for drinking whisky, Developed and produced by Glencairn Crystal Ltd it has become synonymous with the nosing and tasting of spirits.  Its unique shape is derived from the traditional nosing copitas used in whisky labs around Scotland.  Although Flights of Scotland produces flights by hand for many other spirits such as Bourbon, our Scotch flights are specially made for the Glencairn glass and a few cordial-style glassware.

So, it comes to it at last.  For the enthusiast who has no friends and prefers to drink alone, we offer the the "Solo Flight."  A single hole to hold that single malt.  Or, a blended if you prefer.  Remember, we don't judge!  Great for the portable dram before bed.  In fact, several customers have indicated they keep a Solo Flight beside the bed on the nightstand.  Now that is a true enthusiast.  At 4.625-inches long by 3.5-inches wide - it is the most compact flight we make.  Great for sneaking it on board a plane.  Damn be to those that call it a "coaster!"

Someone at Flights of Scotland thought it would be cute, so we created the Solo Flight design "in the round!"  Complete with the same identifying marks as the single-row, single-hole flight, it is the shape that makes this flight totally unique - and it's just plain adorable.

Our demographics department has indicated that Scotch drinkers who are female tend to gravitate to this particular design.  Maybe it's the smooth curves versus the sharp rectilinear lines - all we know is that data analytics are still a mystery to us...
